Dragon Joke(r)s Part Cuatro

This is the scary post. The one where I show you the disturbing costumes.

Yes that's Jareth. His makeup was really good. Unfortunately he was missing one major component of the character, namely: a gigantic, bulging moose knuckle.

I know. This Ronald MacDonald/Chris Nolan Joker hybrid was the best costume at the Con. He epitomized the contradiction that is our current society's corporate greed. Only in America can you sell Whoppers, Big Macs, and Chicken Nuggets to our children while still not providing fair and affordable health care for everyone. Those in poverty can't afford to eat healthier when healthy food is so expensive, and health care takes a quarter of their paycheck or more, if, like me, they have a good plan.

Anyway, sorry for that rant. It really is a fun costume, and this guy was hilarious too. Really friendly, and ready for conversation in spite of his high freak quotient.

I'm sorry but that's all I got for scary day. There was a pyramid head guy from Silent Hill, but I didn't get his photo because I'd already done that at Anime Weekend Atlanta.

Happy Friday, and have a great weekend!

Two good costumes but after deliberation I give the award for the most scary to the second guy.

Because clowns are always scary.

Brilliant costumes!

He looks creepy like in the movie The Dark Night. But what a statement!

Hahaha, these are great. It's making me look forward to Halloween!

Sadly, that's the way I've viewed Ronald MacDonald for a long time.

One more clown to add to my scary clown phobia! Thanks Matt.

That version of Ronald just scared the $%#@^& out of me!! Ever since I watched Poltergeist (like forever ago), I despise clowns.

Alex J. Cavanaugh said...

You're right - eating healthy is expensive. Ever watched Food, Inc.? It will scare you.

I've heard a lot of people say they are scared of clowns. Personally, I think it might have been caused by Stephen King's, It.

That's why the obesity rate is higher in the areas dealing with poverty in the states. A complete opposite to undeveloped countries. That says something right there. And those individual who are now at increased risk of health problems, won't be able to afford the drugs and everything else they need to get their health back on track.

Wow, that dude's scary. If my kids ever saw him at MacDonalds, they'd never want to eat there again. :D

I SO agree with what you said about the Ronald McDonald guy. It's a shame how companies sell so much unhealthy food to us in the name of profits.

so very cool. so very true.
clowns freak me out too! and i've never read it. i think it's the obviousness of how they aren't what they pretend to be.

i think his costume is crazy brilliant too!

and yeah. i hear you on everything you said!
also. labyrinth is a masterpiece... except for jareth's piece. they could have concealed that... blech!

It is a scary clown costume. It doesn't even seem to matter that it's Ronald McDonald.

OMG! It's like Jack Nicholson in a Ronald Mcdonald uniform. Awesome!

Now I'm gonna have nightmares of David Bowie walking on the ceiling again...

I ♥ your rants, Matt! Way to go.

Am I the only one here who doesn't have coulrophobia (fear of clowns)?

That second picture is pretty creepy! Especially his eyes. Eek! I might just have nightmares tonight.

I think that's how Ronald McDonald looks without his makeup. He cleans up nicely.

Okay, that Joker/Ronald McDonald hybrid is creeping me out. That being said, your rant was awesome! ;) I totally agree!

Clowns freak me out. Excellently creepy costumes!

These are great! I must admit, Ronald and the Joker are a freaky hybrid...

Awesome costumes! The joker/Ronald blend was brilliant.

And rant on, brother. Mike and I constantly talk about the ridiculous cost of eating healthy. Our society is upside down.

More hugs and shit,
Shan

I recently got diagnosed with a form of psoriasis...my point is not in the skin condition...rather it is that the shampoo to treat it is $281.00 and the cream is $80. I ask you...who can afford to pay that aside from the super rich? I agree with your rant on healthcare. It is out of control. My friend Meg (single mother) has a very tight budget. A doctor diagnosed her daughter with ringworm and the medication for it was $300.00. /facepalm

I am not afraid of clowns. One of my fav books is Stephen King's IT.

I like that clown guy. I also like Big Macs. I'm pretty sure I would eat them no matter what my budget was. I'm just sayin'.

Ew, that Ronald McDonald totally creeped me out. That might keep me from eating a Big Mac for a century.

Christina Lee said...

*peeks through my fingers* Heath Ledger still haunts me to this day in that role! But what a kiss ASS costume, and statement he (and you) made!!

Christina Lee said...

UGHH111I did it again and wrote KISS ass (instead of KICK) –I’m losing it this week!

And yet check out the look on her face. She's loving it!

Stacy McKitrick said...

I'm not sure why clowns scare people, either. My daughter blames Stephen King & "IT" for her fear. While waiting for her at one of the hotels at Dragon*Con, a man stood by me wearing a four-sided clown head (it was pretty cool, too). I prayed he left before she arrived. I was afraid she might deck him!

Luckily, he did, and I didn't speak of the issue to her.

Next year you'll have to go INSIDE the hotels. The costumes were much more elaborte. Provided you could move, though. Yeah - way crowded!

So, so true. It's disheartening to see how certain social classes get the upper hand even in the simplest, most basic human needs.

And that clown? O_O

Kelly Polark said...

Creeeeepy!
And I know it is terrible for me but I love McD's fountain Coke and french fries!

julie fedderson said...

I knew there was a reason I hated clowns. I can't believe I didn't put together the Joker and Ronald McDonald sooner.

Janet Johnson said...

I don't know who Jareth is, but that second one? He could give me nightmares!

Lola Sharp said...

It looks like you had a good time. :) And what fun that you took the kids.

Wait until WFCon...dude, they REALLY dress up at that sucka. (plus you'll get to hang and party with so many of my friends...I'm tres envious. You are going to have a BLAST!)

Have a terrific weekend, Matt!

Jamie Gibbs said...

I love it when someone has a Jareth costume - they always put a hell of a lot of effort into it (and be thankful that there weren't no trademark Bowie crotch there. I'm still too afraid to watch Labyrinth on Blu-Ray ...)

"High freak quotient" indeed -- but great political commentary.

Rachele Alpine said...

Matt...there is nothing scary about dressing like David Bowie from Labyrith. It may be one of the best roles from the movies I watched in my childhood.
"You remind me of the babe."
"What babe?"
"The babe with the power."
"What power?"
"The power of the babe! Dance, magic, dance!"

Talli Roland said...

Those are fab costumes! I found the second one the scariest.

Sarah Ahiers said...

pyramid head from silent hill is the scariest part of those games. Fact

Sharon K. Mayhew said...

:( I couldn't see the second picture. I agree with you about the cost of healthy food verses cheap chemical and fat loaded food.

LTM said...

Hmmm... LOL! That Micky D's joker costume really set you off, yes? ;p

I told you to say that. :D LOL! j/k

Hope your weekend was divine~

I LOVE THOSE COSTUMES! I love the statement made by the joker Ronald McDonald - perfect, perfect, perfect.
