Scott Pilgrim

After working an 8 hour overtime shift on Saturday this weekend I took my daughter Kylie and her boyfriend to a movie. We saw Scott Pilgrim vs. The World. It was fun.

For a movie based on a comic book that was based on video games it was full of the expected amounts of cheesiness, but only in a wonderful, hilarious way. Of course I've loved everything I've seen Michael Cera in, from Arrested Development on TV, to Superbad to Juno, so it was no surprise that I enjoyed this film. His character was not a huge step outside his normal typecasting but he was a little less wimpy, a little more confident, and a lot more bad ass considering that he has to do battle with all of Ramona's evil Xs. Romana was played by Mary Elizabeth Winstead who is lovely, and performed the character admirably (as far as I know, not being familiar with the comic) but she was also completely unknown to me before this film, so that may have helped. My daughter also thought she and her entire look were completely awesome, so I suppose there is that too.

All in all it was a fun movie and I would recommend it too anyone who enjoys this kind of thing. It was not as much of a romantic comedy as most of Michael Cera's other adorable films, but it did have some of those elements. I would suggest a rental or a matinee, unless you are really into comics and video games, then you should go for it.

That's it for today. Except that I reached 300 followers on Friday. W00T!

I want to see this one once it is available here. I really didn't like Juno, though, mainly because I couldn't find anything at all to like about the lead character.

glad you had a nice day at the cinema. SCOTT PILGRIM is not my cup of tea, but I'm planning to watch it on DVD because I mustn't miss Chris Evans in action :)

I am so out of the movie loop ever since I pretty much stopped watching TV. I'll probably wait for this one to be available on Netflix.

Thanks for the review! And congratulations!

Congrats on the followers! I hadn't heard of this movie until one night last week when I dropped daughterling off at the theater. No clue it was based on a comic book that was based on a game. The blogosphere enlightens me yet again!

I like Michael Cera, and I don't even watch many of his films! I just like the geeks I guess. Great review! Now I want to see it.

Cera's a good actor. Year One would've been completely unwatchable if not for his character's delivery of funny lines.

I've been wondering about this movie--it's one of those that looks like it would turn out pretty good or pretty bad. I love Cera and would hate to watch a film that would 'ruin' him for me, you know?

Have you watched Youth in Revolt? Again, I wasn't sure if that would be a winner or not, so I haven't seen it.

I think Michael Cera is one of those actors you either love, or can't stand. I love him. I think he's adorable, even if he always seems to play the same type of character. Looking forward to seeing this one.

Congrats on 300!

Hey, Matt--that movie looks interesting; must check it out...

So I'm trolling for testosterone today. Mind stopping my blog and leaving some?

OK, Ew. That sounds disgusting. But I do need some male input. Care to help?
