Announcements!

Good Morning y'all. Sorry I was out yesterday but I wasn't feeling well and really don't blog from home except for a teeny bit of reading. I know Rose already announced it on her blog but just in case anyone missed it I did want to say congrats to Maradeth Houston and Jen Daiker for winning the query critiques. Rose and I will both give you some feedback and then we'll do some kind of post here on The QQQE to celebrate. It may be like the Friday guest posts or it may be something different, who knows?

Anyway I never took any great photos of my awesome shiny signed copy of The Deathday Letter by Shaun David Hutchinson for you guys because I wasn't feeling well. I really wanted to share what he wrote when he signed it because it was pretty funny, but now I can't remember! Doh! I do know he signed it Carpe Mortdiem! Which, although I don't know Latin that well I do recall Carpe Diem from The Dead Poets Society so I assume Carpe Mortdiem (or Mort Diem) is Seize the Deathday! Which is pretty awesome.

I would like to thank Shaun both for writing the novel and for sending it to me and my good bud Michelle McLean for holding the contest in which I won it. My only problem now is that I'm really uptight about books and since this one is signed by the author - I can't actually read it. I do take pretty good care of books that I like but I will have to go buy a copy that I can read because I'm too worried about damaging this one. It's kind of like a baseball card. If I care about a book it must be in perfect condition. I'm neurotic, I know, but I swear
I'm really laid back about most other things.

Anyway that's it for today, I need to write Jen Blom's guest post so I have to get on that. Any questions?

I love that you liken signed books to mint condition baseball cards! Very cool. Congrats on winning the book--it's on my "to read" list. You'll have to let us know how you like it.

That is so cool that he has a unique slogan to sign with! You could always 'put miles' on the library's copy...

Glad your feeling better and looks like a super prize.

Heh! I'm not as careful with things like that. I have a lot of autographs laying around, not in plastic covers. I'll probably ruin some of them someday.

Oh I'm sorry to hear you're not feeling well! Do take care and rest! And I so understand about keeping that signed book from SDH pristine and unread. I do that with my signed copies of favourite authors!! It's not being neurotic - it's treating something precious preciously! So there! LOL!

Congratulations to Maradeth Houston and Jen Daiker! Yay!

Take care

I have autographed cds that I don't touch because I might damage them in some ways, so I know how you feel.

hmmm, I like when authors sign my books but then I read the crap out of them and I can't afford two copies of every book I get signed. I would rather spend my money buying more of their books.

I'm the same way with signed books. I'm afraid to read them especially since I love to read while I'm eating, but would never attempt this with a signed book.

Congrats on the book - looks awesome! I'm careful with my signed copies as well :)

i try to keep some of my books looking nice, but some i have to replace due to so much read-age. I figure, the author will probably appreciate my double purhcase

Amazing. You keeps the prize winning books like any other precious gifts. All the best, hopefully when your book comes out, there will be people to take signed books from you. :)

OOps! I read my signed books! Ah well, I was never good at collecting anyway.

(that chewabacca action figure would have fetched a tidy sum, if it still had both arms)

I have a signed copy of The Gargoyle by Andrew Davidson, but that's the only one.
I think I'd be loath to open a signed book too. lol.

That is one awesome prize! I've heard that's a great book!
Do take care of the signed book. I had the members of Motley Crue sign their book called the Dirt, and I have no idea where I put it! Sometimes I put something away so it's safe then forget where it is!

THE DEATHDAY LETTER cover is charming in some morbid way :))

Haha! I had that problem a while back where I hated to have the wear marks on the spine of the book. (And it's nearly impossible to read a 300+ page book without opening it too wide)

Now, I've kinda chilled to the point that so long as it's front cover is intact, I'm good with it. :)
