Things I Love: Part One

Tuong ot Siracha hot chili sauce is the best hot sauce in the world.

Some people like Tabasco, some people like Texas Pete's, some people like Cholula, but I love Siracha sauce! Most hot sauces are 90% vinegar, or more. There is nothing wrong with vinegar, it has its uses, but I prefer a sauce whose ingredients are full of flavor, and work less as filler. Siracha sauce does still have vinegar, but the majority of it is made up of chili paste, garlic, sugar and salt.

The name comes from Si Racha, a town in Chonburi Province, Thailand. That makes sense since I love Thai food, too. Apparently, the version you can buy in Thailand is thicker, tangier, and sweeter. I would love to try it, but I also like the American version just fine.

I have no idea what the significance of the Rooster is, but the Huy Fong Foods version featuring it on the label is often known as Rooster Sauce, or Cock Sauce, which are both kind of gross.

Bon Appetit featured Siracha Sauce as on of the best ingredients of the year in 2010.

I don't usually use sauce, but I DO add Thai red chili powder to most of my dinners. My kids hate spicy, so I just keep the bottle at the table and sprinkle it over my own food.

You nailed it, Matt. That's my favorite, too. And boy do I squirt it on everything. Okay, almost everything. It's not too hot on ice cream. ;)

A timely post. I just ate chicken and avocado with my SIRACHA sauce for lunch. I slather everything in that chilli sauce - absolutely, my fav!

The best sauce is gyoza sauce, a lot like soy, but with more garlic/other stuff.

While this is awesome, I still see it as 'cock sauce,' and there are only certain times when I want to put cock sauce in my mouth.

It's a #2 for me. #1 has to be Tapatillo, in my mind.

I love guacamole, especially if I make it myself. I so miss my tostadas when I am overseas. We usually can't even get avocados here, and when we can they can run ten or twelve bucks apiece for very bad quality ones.

Maybe the rooster signifies that it will make you crow. (I don't do hot. Never have, not even pepper. Don't like the pain.)

You know, I've been asked a lot of strange things in my life, but my favorite condiment? I think that's a first.

I like hybrid condiments - ones I make by mixing two or more regular condiments. My favorite is cocktail sauce and mayo. Mayo and ketchup is also great. Hot sauce and butter make an excellent buffalo sauce.

I had no idea I had so much to say on the subject. Excellent post :-) I also like the hot chili sauce you mention, but I don't use it often.

I love Lea and Perrins Worcestershire sauce. I put it in baked beans, avocado halves with olive oil and balsamic vinegar, and all sorts of other things.

I also love aioli, otherwise known as garlic mayonnaise. YUM. It's the best thing for dipping anything bread into: pizza crusts, french bread, garlic bread, you name it. My mouth is watering.

I have two favorite condiments:

(a) Cream Cheese - and yes, it's a condiment. I put the damn stuff on everything. (Hmm, that could explain my hips...)

(b) I think this can only be found in Mexico: it's mayo with Chipotle peppers--spicy and oh so delicious!

I think if I stopped eating just these two items, I could lose a stone or two.

My husband would have to agree with you! :) I, personally, don't like hot sauce, but the hubs likes it on everything.

Hmm...must be something in the air. I was writing about Tahini sauce yesterday. (tahini+lemon juice+garlic+salt=yum) I also make lots of yogurt-based sauces and love mint sauce with lamb. :)

I love Taco Bell's Fire Sauce. Seriously. I keep packets and packets of it around for all kinds of things other than actual Taco Bell.

I do not like the tabasco sauce or the real hot stuff that leaves my mouth burning. I enjoy flavor a mix of flavors that comes from a good homemade salsa.

We call Siracha "The Chicken"; I like it on everything but eggs. For eggs I use Tapatio.

The kids I baby sit for made me try this as part of the "You have to try everything on your plate" rule. I'm glad they did. It saved me when I visited my sister and had the blandest red curry sauce ever. We also have a bottle at work and have recently talked about drinks we can make with siracha.

i don't think i've ever tried hot sauce at all... i would have to go with honey or kc masterpiece bbq sauce. i hate ketchup, mustard, and mayo. blech! *shivers*

I don' use a lot of condiments, actually. Normally my food is just spicy! I love spicy!

IF if I had to pick a favorite ... I would go with bbq sauce. ;-)

I don't put hot sauce on anything; my taste buds are wusses. But my son and hubby love it! Will have to surprise them with this sauce sometime!

they french mcdonalds have a special sauce for fries. That mixed with ketchup is by far my favorite. But I also love REAL mayonaise, made from scratch.

I like to call that "cock sauce" because I can't remember how to pronounce the real name. I love that stuff. Give me a bottle of cock sauce and rotissere chicken and I'm a happy girl.

Ketchup. On everything. Even eggs. Sometimes I use bar-b-q sauce if I am feeling particularly daring.

Am I the only one a little disturbed by the term 'cock sauce'?

I'm addicted to green pepper sauce. I put it on everything. That and vinegar and lemon. I think I have a problem with acidic foods.

But I have to say, thanks for the breakdown on this one. I personally don't care for Tabasco b/c it's so vinegary. (I know, I'm waiting for my "La. traitor" letter...) This I might like... :D

I'm not really into hot sauce, but I do like ketchup. I love soy sauce as well. I know it's weird, but I have it as a dressing on salad. LOL.
