TGIF

I did something strange this morning. I read several blog post before I wrote my own. I never do that.

I don't know why, but lately I've been feeling very unmotivated about blogging. I know, weird thing for me to say, me, of all people. I went for probably a whole year blogging almost every single weekday. And I do still love it, I love the connections, I love the feedback, I love the human quality to it. But lately ... I don't know. I think it's because I'm so close in my revisions. I really want to finish this re-write, get it to my CPs, fix it again, and get it to betas so that I can try querying this novel this fall.

It's not like blogging really gets in the way of that, logistically, but I think it's a matter of mental focus. I can't focus on my story the way I want and need to if I'm focusing on a blog post. Or maybe I'm just crazy.

Anyway, with that, I leave you with these:

I'm lowering my standards a bit here, I know, but who cares. These things are fun. And it's Friday. Have a great weekend y'all!

I totally agree about mental focus--my post today is related to that. And who can complain about funny kitteh pictures on a Friday? No one.

A great weekend back at ya, and then some.

Nothing wrong with fun!
It's challenging to do both, but for me blogging is an outlet. I focus on my writing and then I come here and talk about fun stuff.

I've been feeling that way too. I don't know why. I love reading the blogs and commenting but haven't been motivated to write any blogs. I think for me it's exhaustion. However, I've loved your blog posts of late. Have a great weekend.

Having wise and cute floofy kitties on your blog is so not lowering standards!! So there. Raspberries to anyone who thinks otherwise! LOL! Take care

Sometimes you have to focus on writing! Good luck with those revisions. I enjoyed your post on Whitey only b/c my MG is set in Southie and involves the stolen paintings that Whitey is the prime suspect for! I can't believe he was on the run for that long!

I'm the same way during revisions. I find that most of my blog posts are about revising, which is probably only interesting to me. But hey, you can never go wrong with cat pictures. :-)

LOL cats are always good. Good luck with your revisions.

Love the cutesy kitties, MacNish. They made my day. And we all have those times during revisions when the book is on our minds. Not the blog posts. Hey, MacNish, have any thoughts on Pottermore?

I can relate to this. I'm learning how much time blogging takes and I'm only doing it once a week.

I'm also trying to focus on my revisions and writing more. Good luck and maybe cut down your posts to 3 days a week while you're inspired to write.

Seriously, Matt, I hear you on the motivation subject. I think as we grow as writers, we also need to grow as bloggers; meaning, we need to revamp/rethink our reasons and strategies for writing blog posts. As you can probably tell, I'm at the same point as you. I've decided to take a hiatus from blogging during the month of July and then blog sporadically during the month of August. I have writing I'd like to concentrate on and then there's the kids being home for the summer. I'm hoping to return with a new verve for blogging and sense of who I am as a blogger.

I've been a little on the unmotivated side with blogging, too. I used to post MWF, and I've eliminated Friday. Sometimes there's just other things that need our attention. (The pics are great, BTW)

I do that sometimes when I'm not motivated too! You can never got wrong with cats...lol

Hahaha, love the cat agent!

I have moments when I get tons of blog post ideas that set me up for weeks....then I get into a slump when I think I have nothing to blog about. So no worries! I think it happens to most of us. Good luck with your revisions!

Blogcation time! "There's a tide in the affairs of blog..."

As I wrote on my blogs last week, I'm on a summer schedule. It means only one less day, but what a relief! Blogging (and reading interesting blogs) can become a fulltime biz. Sometimes I feel like a journalist, snooping around for my next story while the WIP throws a tantrum because she's no longer my one and only.

(But when the rains come and the children are back in school... the blog engine will rev once more.)

And not that you need my permission, but it really is okay to scale back, put up the cat pics, and party on. Even if you posted twice a week about alligators, I'd still rush here every weekday morning so as to start my day with some great writing.

I can relate to the mental focus thing as well. Plus, it's summer and it feels like the blogging world is kind of slow. It's hard to get motivated to post some days :)

I wants book deel too!

The writing should come before the blog, unless you want to be a professional blogger. :)

You could always cut back to two or three days a week on the QQQ and not lose any momentum, IMO.

There are some days that I like blogging and others where I don't. Usually on those I post a picture with some minorly offensive thing on it. It 1) serves to fulfill the blog post thing 2) usually provides humor of some kind and 3) drives the uptight religious/"fundy" people who might be following my blog out of there (who may be following me for some reason and not realize I talk about gay issues and on occasion...swear).

I fell that way sometimes, too.

But when I feel not too excited about blogging, that is usually because I am trying too hard to write something that I think maybe someone would want to read...and there is pressure in that. (And lord knows that when you are revising or editing, there is plenty of pressure there, my friend.)

So, I just try to re-focus my blog and make it into what I always wanted it to be, a place on-line to put my thoughts about writing and such. For me.

Less pressure=more fun to write.

P.S. How IS that cat resisting the lightsaber???

Go and do what you need to do. We'll be here when you're done and ready to come back. :)

I feel that way a lot lately. Maybe it's because of summer, or maybe I'm just terrible at multi-tasking? I don't know. But good luck with finishing your WIP!

know how you feel. love the second pic.

Nothing at all wrong with cute kittehs! Listen, it's not suprising at all. With *everything* in life we need a break sometimes no matter how much we love it, right? Cut yourself some slack and feel good about finishing your revisions! Writing is the core of what brought us all together anyway--so as writers we should:WRITE! xoxo

Good post Matthew. Noveling is always more fun than blogging for me.

Oh.. and BTW, I busted your chops on Bree Ogden's blog this morning (all in good fun).

Sometimes, we just need a little Fur-iday! Thanks for the pics, and the smile.

HahaHA, those are GREAT pics. :) Love the Ishmael/Ish-meow and the light saber one. Have a great weekend!

I've noticed that when people don't write full blog posts - writers, especially - they usually replace it with pictures of cats. :) I think this is exactly how it should be.

Hey, you don't need to be ashamed of staying focused. I promise to buy your book even if you miss a few posts. :) Also, we love funny cat photos at our house.

I get restless too, when I'm closing in on a finish line. It's normal.

Wait, did I just say we're normal? Quick, someone write that down! I want proof!

I often feel that way when I'm in revisions. It's hard to find the mental space when you're focused on editing and stuff!

Matt, I love the cat pix, especially ish-meow. I live with two dogs and four cats and everything is covered in fur. When I shop for furniture or rugs, the pattern has to go with cat barf (cats throw up all the time... it's just what they do).

Finish those revisions. I'll bet your novel is wonderful.

Sometimes it's good to take a break from blogging or the same routine. Writing comes first, right?
