British Pretendium

As you know I don't normally post twice in one day but when I read this ridiculous article I had to share it with my readers.

Apparently British Petroleum has purchased the search term "oil spill" so that the first link will take readers directly the their own website so that they can convince everyone of all the wonderful things they are doing to clean up the spill.

Here is the article.

I tested it and it's true. Here's a screen shot:

EDIT: I had to put this post back up for those who missed it and because I found this hilarious (tragic) photo:

Thanks for this. I wonder what they're going to buy next. Pelicans, Louisiana, ocean...?

Bloody BP. Believe me, they're just as hated on this side of the ocean.

I have no words for this.

This is how Google stays in business. Otherwise it'd be $0.01 per search word for us to Google "oil spill."

And I don't care if they are "British" Petroleum -- I still blame Canada!

Yikes! That's ridiculous. I didn't know you could buy search terms. I can think of a few better uses for their money.

DISCLAIMER: I'm not condoning anything they've done, but....

I just gotta say I didn't know this sort of thing was possible and from a marketing / damage control standpoint, it was a ingenious idea.

In the end, though, won't it backfire? Most of us are not stupid and will find a way to get at the truth regardless.
