Game of Thrones Premier

Last night was the HBO premier of the series Game of Thrones, based on the George R. R. Martin novel of almost the same name, from his series A Song of Ice and Fire.

I was about 80% satisfied with the production. They kept it very close to the plot of the book, which is always something I appreciate. I also thought that nearly all the actors were very well cast, especially the Stark children.

I did have a few complaints, but I won't go into them here, as I don't have time. Tomorrow is going to be my stop on the Rose Cooper, Gossip from the Girls Room, a Blogtastic Novel blog tour, so make sure to come back for that. Today's stop is at Candyland, so go there, now.

UPDATE: Shain Brown hooked me up with this Game of Thrones viewer's guide.

Will be back tomorrow.

I have not read the books, but I was ecstatic about the show, and as always with HBO productions they delivered above par.

Again, this comes from someone who has not read the books, but all of it is amazing: superb acting, amazing cast, and the continual twists and turns developed by each of the separate kingdoms. I am already becoming a fan.

I definitely want to read the books.

Hmm...I heard about this but didn't watch. Oh, yeah, that's because we don't have HBO. Do we live in yester-year, or what???

I've never heard of this, but it sounds really good!

Oh how you HBO channel people taunt me with your superior programming! Darn you and your cool shows, do you hear me??? Darn you! (please keep updating us on new shows, though--I really do like to hear about them, I'm just slightly jealous :))

The premier was pretty damn good, IMO. We had a free preview of HBO (good marketing on their part) and now I'm actually thinking of subscribing for the duration of the season. o_0

Haven't read the books, either, but after last night's premiere, I am DYING to. Really looking forward to the rest of the episodes.

I hope you do get around to telling us what didn't work for you, seeing as how I can't watch it until it comes out on DVD. I hope they will do the entire series, and get better at it as they go!

Yeah, I have no cable. I'm like Ted. I have to wait for Netflix. *sniff* But the commercials looked great. :(

Lovely Donna Hoise brought my attention to a review done by the NYT about this series! That's how I know about this! I hope that nice BBC will show this here!!

Take care

I am looking forward to this series! Thanks for posting about it.

I watch my HBO programming on Zune on my XBox. I don't have cable, but for less than the cost of a set of DVDs I can watch specific shows while they are airing on my xbox.

I heard about this, but I don't have HBO! Love that you give us a percentage of how satisfied you are. Hehe.

I haven't read the books and I don't get HBO, but I saw a preview for this and it looks pretty good. I'll have to catch it from Netflix at some point!

We don't have HBO. :(

Yay, I was off to Candyland now anyway. :D

I was really impressed with it. Is it another Tudors? Maybe. But I'll be watching it for a while, before I render my final judgement.

I've heard so much about this, but I don't have cable, so ... maybe someday on Netflix.

I'm surprised to hear you say 80%, as HBO usually does not miss. I was gambling last night but plan to watch it today... I will look forward to more from you!

I haven't read the books yet and wasn't going to watch the show until I had, but we got HBO for free this past weekend, so I watched the first episode. I had to keep looking away at times, though. It was incredibly violent! There are two scenes in particular that really turned my stomach.

I've been thinking about reading these since last spring/summer b/c some of my co-workers really enjoy the books. I think I'm going to wait until there's a firm release date on the seventh book, though. If it took him six years to write book five, how long will it take to write the next two--and will he be able to finish? The books are *long,* too. Not that long books scare me; I love them. But with a TBR as long as mine, I can't re-read all five books when six finally comes out, then re-read six of them when the final one comes out. I don't have enough time to do that! So I think I'll wait...

These are the things that make me want to get HBO. But then I remember that I don't really watch TV. #unclearontheconcept

Haven't watched it yet. Going to hit it up tonight - can't wait!

Yeah, we enjoyed it last night. It's making up for my missing the Tudors. *sobs* We tried to get into Camelot (I think on Showtime...anyway, one of the other movie channels), but even with Joe Fiennes it just wasn't good enough.

All those people above without movie channels?! O_0

Happy Monday. :)

I haven't read the books, but I'm looking forward to seeing the series. It starts tonight here. I've been avoiding spoilers/internet reviews all day. LOL.

Have you ever played the game? It is very enjoyable and has a lot of strategy involved.

Natalie Aguirre said...

I watched it too. There are so many characters I think I need to read it again even though I did read the book.

Bethany Elizabeth said...

I really want to watch it, but I don't have TV. Bit of a puzzle, yes? But I want to read it before I watch it, so I guess that comes first.

mshatch said...

I probably won't watch it until the books are complete. Not sure when that will be unless the book coming out this summer is the final one.

Becca Puglisi said...

These books sounds really interesting. I don't have HBO, so we'll probably be Netflixing (is that a word?) the show when the first season comes out.
