For Simon:
- You must stay drunk on writing so reality cannot destroy you. ~Ray Bradbury
For me (because I need to remember this while in revision):
- I try to leave out the parts that people skip. ~Elmore Leonard
For Ted:
- If there's a book you really want to read, but it hasn't been written yet, then you must write it. ~Toni Morrison
:o) I love how you've directed these to your mates! haha.
ReplyDeleteLove the quotes. And fun that you directed them to your friends. Glad you're getting some writing done.
ReplyDeleteThe Leonard quote is the best...and SOOOOO true!
ReplyDeletegood luck getting that plugging away on the writing. :D
I like that Leonard quote a lot. It was relevant this weekend as I tried to decide where to begin my story. Happy writing/revising, Matt!
ReplyDeleteThose are great quotes.
ReplyDeleteExcellent quotes. Looking forward to the rest of this week.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE quotes in general and but these are great. You nailed the perfect one for Simon too. And, I"m trying to revise as well, so the quote from Elmore Leonard is just what I needed to hear! Have a great Monday and good luck with your revisions.
ReplyDeleteI'll take number #2 because right now I'm having to cut out all the parts I would skip. and it's a lot.
ReplyDeleteGreat quotes. Hope your writing week goes well.
ReplyDeleteOr, if you're a celebrity, you can hire someone else to write that book under your name!
ReplyDeleteAnd it can be any book! Since the celebrity probably hasn't read any books anyway. Think of all the selection!
Leave out the boring parts - check!
ReplyDeleteTony and I have pretty much the same perogative.
ReplyDeleteI love Emore's quote!!!! Whenever I find myself accidentally skimming something in my book, I immediately figure out how to delete it.
ReplyDeleteGreat quotes and always a reminder to keep at it!!
ReplyDeleteYay for inebriation!! But seriously!!! Fab inspiring quotes!! Take care

Toni Morrison's by far!! I love it. Now, where's my Muse?
ReplyDeleteI love the Bradbury quote. It's one I haven't heard before. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteGood luck writing. I look forward to purchasing said book or vying for one of your ARC's.
ReplyDeleteGreat motivators! I, too, need to stay the hell away from blogger and get back to my manuscript! I know how you feel.
ReplyDeleteYou've given me the title to my new autobiography: DRUNK, SKIP, READ. Thank you, and keep the quotes coming!
ReplyDeleteAh! I *love* the first two! Fabulous!
ReplyDeleteGood luck! We've got that Toni Morrison quote on our blog, but it would be better to get it tattooed on our arms or something so we don't forget!
ReplyDeleteerica
The Morrison quote is a favorite of mine, and the Elmore quote is perfect for one in the middle of revisions - that's a good way of thinking about the story.
ReplyDeleteAnd, of course, the quote for Simon is perfect.
These are great quotes. Too bad for Simon Ray Bradbury didn't say "You must stay drunk so writing cannot destroy you."
ReplyDeleteGreat quotes! Now get back to work!!
ReplyDeleteLove all of these! Be sure to check out my quotes post today because you're featured! :)
ReplyDeletegood luck with the writing! GO GO GO!
ReplyDeleteGreat quotes! Good luck with the writing!
ReplyDeleteI love Leonard and pretty much anything he says is quote-worthy to me. I should have this one taped over my desk. :)
ReplyDeleteI so agree with all of those quotes, especially loved the last one. :)
ReplyDeleteBradbury is the man. :)
ReplyDeleteGotta stay focused on the writing right?
ReplyDelete.......dhole
All great quotes, Matt.
ReplyDeleteHave a productive writing week, and bring us back the parts that we DO want to read!!!
(A no-brainer for you, my friend)
I love these quotes. I never get tired of seeing them. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteGreat quotes! Thanks for posting them. Good luck with your revisions--I'm happy for you that you are that close to finishing! Yay! (BTW, I've been feeling the same way about blogging lately, hence no blogs--I've been feeling guilty!)
ReplyDeleteTasty bites.
ReplyDeleteWell, I could have used some of that advice a long time ago - it would have saved me a lot of time.
ReplyDeleteHappy writing.
Good choices for all of us. Just so you know, my uncle's house's internet it down, so I haven't been able to get on except for rare times when we visit a Starbucks.
ReplyDeleteThe Leonard quote is one of my favorite and Bradbury is the coolest.
ReplyDeleteI stay drunk on alcohol so the writing doesn't destroy me.
