I'm taking a blogging hiatus today, because I've got some writing related obligations, so here's something for you, my lovelies:
I don't know why he's drinking beer when he's singing about wine (in the music video version, which for some reason doesn't have the great dub verse), but at far as I'm concerned, as long as it gets you drunk, it's all good.
Have a wonderful day, friends.
Oh wow, I'm thirteen again! Ali Campbell looks so young :-)
ReplyDeleteClassic song. I saw UB40 in '85 and this album was the reason.
ReplyDeleteJust checked wiki, and found an interesting history to the song - Neil Diamond wrote it in '68, then UB40 covered a reggae version in '83, then it was released as a single in '88 and went to #1, and finally Neil Diamond did a cover of UB40's version.
Here's a funny bit - Neil Diamond live, singing his own song, and both mocking UB40's version and thanking them in the same verse at the end of the song.
ReplyDeleteThat's funny. Whenever I hear 'bottle of wine' in reference to a song I think of this one:

I do like red red wine. Now I'll have that song in my head all day.
ReplyDeleteI'm with Stephen. (Now I'm going to have that in my head all day)
ReplyDeleteOkay. Morning wine?? I'm done for...
ReplyDeleteOff I go to my pub lunch!
ReplyDelete:-)
See you soon! take care

Ya mon!
ReplyDeleteHope you have a productive day then Matthew.
ReplyDeleteWhat has two thumbs, will have that song stuck in his head all day, and thinking about what wine to pick up on the way home? This guy. Honestly, every time I hear that song I think about sangria for some reason, but since I don't have any of that made, we'll go with the pinot noir.
ReplyDeleteLoved Maine Character's research about the song. It always reminds me of Japan--because that's where I was living at the time, drinking more sake than red wine. Oh well, good times.
ReplyDeleteHope your writing projects go well.
Love this song. Listen to it weekly. <3
ReplyDeleteHaha!
ReplyDeleteHappy Tuesday :) And here's to YOU being productive and prioritizing! *cheers*
It's a fun song.
ReplyDeleteHa! Love that song.
ReplyDeleteIn second grade, my friend's house was the bus stop. We listened to that song over and over on cassette as we jumped on the trampoline and looked over her neighbor's roof for the bus.
ReplyDeleteAh, nostalgia. They used to play that song at all of our middle school dances. LOL
ReplyDeleteMusical interludes are great, it soothes the soul for some of us.
ReplyDeleteMusic reminds us of those special moments in our lives. I wrote 'Music for the Soul' on one of my blogs if you're interested:

Good luck with your writing and thanks for the video.
I love UB40. It is on my neighbor's list for pool parties, so even if I hadn't loved it in college, I would now.
ReplyDeleteHaving been exposed by the mutative energies of Weird Al Yankovic's music, I've grown the ability to spin the lyrics around of almost any given song. This one is too easy. It so becomes Red, Red Vines...a song dedicated to a most delicious confection.
ReplyDeleteMan, I love me some UB40 and no, the video made no sense. Weirdos.
ReplyDeleteZomg, this is hilarious! I don't think I liked this song when it was on the radio. I don't know, soooo long ago.
ReplyDeleteJen
Nothing beats a good drinking song. Excellent choice :D
ReplyDeleteTo have a blog break you must get approval from the blog nazi.
ReplyDeleteROFL! I totally remember dancing at an under-age dance club to this song. Good times :)
ReplyDeleteGood luck with your obligations!
ReplyDelete"but at far as I'm concerned, as long as it gets you drunk, it's all good."
ReplyDeleteAmen.

And now that song's going to be stuck in my head for hours! Have fun :)
ReplyDeleteI salute you for doing That Which Must Be Done.I only hope that you're not wearing MC Hammer pants.
ReplyDeleteAnd I keep forgetting that we're in different time zones. That's weird, because I feel like you live in the neighborhood here.
ReplyDeleteAwesome! I love how technology connected you! : )
ReplyDeleteYeah, that comment was for the above post. But I love red, red, wine! I think I'll go get me some!
