Update for Wednesday

Okay. So several things have happened while I've been on Hiatus.

I've lost 4 followers. I don't suppose I can really blame them, I mean why follow when there's nothing new to read.

I've added about 15,000 words to the re-write of Warrior-Monks. I'm basically proud of that, but I still need to get a lot more done, and still won't have much time to read as many blogs as I would like this short week.

My kids are now officially both out of school. Madison will be in 5th grade this fall, and Kylie is technically now a sophomore. We've been spending lots of time at the pool.

We joined a Gym. Yep. It's time for this writer to get in shape before my heart implodes from being pickled in too much alcohol. This place has TVs built into the treadmills, so hopefully NFL Live will make 30 minutes of cardio feel like 10. Hopefully.

Anyway, I've got something special for you guys tomorrow, so stay tuned. And followers? Please stop leaving. I promise to write more if you stay.

  1. Well done on the rewrite! Don't worry about the missing followers. Blogger was mighty hungry last week.

Sounds like you're enjoying the summer!

  2. Suzie beat me to it - Blogger was definitely wonky last week, so it's possible the missing followers are a glitch.

TV's in the treadmill are great, but someone needs to invent one for writers that's equipt with Word, so we can edit while walking.

  3. Well, I've only just started following you so not all bad (depends how you look at it though).

  4. It might be a glitch, but it still stings when they're gone. Ah well. Good luck on the gym thing and congrats for getting 15,000 words added. Very cool!

  5. I will never leave!! I lost one too - oh well!! Bloggie life goes on!! Oooh will tomorrow have chocolate too?!?!? Yay!

    Take care

  6. I lost 3 followers in 24 hours one day last week, so I doubt your follower loss was much more than a glitch, or maybe a few people deleting their gmail accounts. Wow--15k words! Keep at it! (And have fun at the gym. You are a better person than I)

  7. I want to join a gym, but I'm using our limited finances as an excuse not to :) I bet you'll end up loving it, though~ it might take a few weeks, but you'll start to get twitchy if you don't go.

Congrats on the revision break-through and added words!

  8. I also lost a follower or two last week. Okay, I'm going with everyone else. It must be because of the Blogger glitch. :)

I love working out (not that I do as much as I could). That's when I solve plot problems. I couldn't go running yesterday, and was annoyed because I NEEDED to figure out the problem with my WIP. Fortunately a shower had the same trick. It must have something to do with not being near pen and paper at the time that inspires the ideas/solutions to hit. :D

  9. It's got to be b/c of the Blogger glitch, I can't imagine unfollowing someone. I wouldn't even know how to do it. :)

  10. My monster gets out of school next Friday, which means I have exactly 7 working days to get the rewrites done on my 89k ms. hahhahahhahahhah yeah, I'm not sweating that one.

  11. That's what I love about the world of bloggers...sharing angst. I hate when I lose a follower because I never know why. I never thought about glitches. Enjoy the workouts.

  12. Hi Matthew, sorry you lost some followers, but you got one new one today: me! :)

    ReplyDelete
  13. I'm a newer follower. I've yet to un-follow a blog, so I'll be around for a while!

    ReplyDelete
  14. That's so weird that you lost those followers! Their loss I suppose. So glad to hear you got some writing done. Now you just have to keep it up! :o)

  15. WOW!!! that's a lotta writing! keep it up! and now i feel guilty about taking a (very long) hiatus from my exercise program. yech. :)

  16. I lost a couple too recently! And for the first time ever, I actually 'unfollowed' someone who was posting new blogs every three seconds and blowing up my google reader. It takes some serious time and effort to 'unfollow' I'm almost offended so many people have intentially taken the time to unfollow me! Have a heart people!

  17. I can't do the TV thing while working out. I'm all about the power rock cranked up on my iPod. Then again, I don't go to a gym anymore--just run. It's hot as balls and sweatier to boot, but I like it.

    ReplyDelete
  18. AWESOME progress!! Congrats :) And don't worry about the lost followers... it happens to me all the time, but new ones show up even more frequently, and they stick around! Plus, I think sometimes people maybe delete their blogs, so it may not be anything personal...

  20. I know how you feel about the working out thing; I just started running again (I'm a total fair weather runner) in the hopes of not looking the stay puft marshmallow man's sister this summer.

And, you added 15,000 words! Holy cow, I'm trying to cut twice that from my finished but bloated manuscript.

  21. I lost a follower last week. I would hope it wouldn't be about lack of posts but rather that the person's particular wants were not being met here.

    ReplyDelete
  22. The un-following thing is weird. Who has time for that?! I've unfollowed about five people, but it was because they were offensive or something, not 'cause they took a break (said the woman who's taking a break).

  23. I haven't taken a hiatus and I lost 3 followers last month! I'm choosing to believe it's because those three people deleted their own blogs. Oh well! So anyway, I wouldn't worry about the lost followers. It happens!

Congrats on the increasing word count!

    ReplyDelete
  24. Wonder if the lost followers decided they'd had enough of blogger's glitches and went elsewhere? Just sayin'.

I'm glad we all seem to be on the same wavelength: June=hiatus. At least I know I won't miss anything big. :)

    ReplyDelete
  25. Well, I'm a new follower, and I'm sticking around!

    ReplyDelete
  26. I used to watch my soap opera while doing my 30 on the treadmill. A guilty pleasure and I didn't watch it unless I was exercising! Unfortunately our treadmill is kaput and gone so haven't watched the soap in a while! Good luck on your new exercise routine and hurray for 15,000 words! WOW!

  27. Nine days is a hiatus? Shesh, on my blog that's often the norm between postings. Bloggers are entitled to have a real life occasionally--aren't they?

For those that "unfollowed" you--whether or not it was because you went a whole nine days without adding anything new *oh the horror!* or whether they stopped following you for some other reason, new followers will take their place. Hopefully, they will be more dedicated followers too.

    Welcome back. ;-)

  28. Dude, you are rockin'(the writing, the pool, the gym.) I'm proud of you, man!

    ReplyDelete
  29. i've also lost 2 followers recently, so maybe it's just a few people cleaning up their lists? Bahdunno. I did get four new ones after that, so i guess things even out.
Go you on the 15K, that is rockin! And also, good luck at the gym. I always need something super entertaining on the tube to make my 60 mins bearable

    ReplyDelete
  30. Congrats on your re-write. I'm currently in the re-write stage and it can be daunting.

I've lost followers lately too. I wonder if some people are just done with blogging and they delete their blog. At least, that's what I tell myself :) But, I haven't been the best at posting lately. It makes sense.

    I'll be back tomorrow.

  31. I lost all twenty of my followers when they found me in bed with another monk. Now I gotta dye my beard and change my name if I'm going to keep the ashram open for the summer.

And congrats on the exercise! Nothing like walking to get the ideas going.

  32. Just keep writing, Matt.

"If you build it, they will come." (Shameless plagiarism)

"What's a 'follower?'" (Shameless inside joke)

"Can I e-mail you a few pounds to work off for me?" (Shameless inappropriate usage of Al Gore's magnificent Internet machine)

Here's to your continued success in the word output department!

    ReplyDelete
  33. Sorry, Matthew. Once you're friends with me, you're stuck with me for life. I'm one of those stubborn pups who just won't go away no matter how many times you whack him on the nose with a newspaper!

    ReplyDelete
  34. Lucky! My stupid gym, despite being a mega corporate franchise worth gazillions, only has a few television monitors hanging from the ceiling that broadcast annoying political banters 24-7. I think a personal TV on my machine would be awesome; I might even up my cardio time to an hour during my primetime shows. Good luck, Matt. I think you'll find it has a lot of benefits beyond the physical ones.

    ReplyDelete
  35. glad to hear your rewrites are going well. Congrats on joining the gym. I'm so jealous of the treadmills with the TVs. TV is what I need to stay on the elliptical.
Don't be bummed about the followers. Blogger has been weird with comments and stuff so maybe people are just leaving blogger.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Sorry. Those four followers were talking smack and I had to kill them.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Whoa,15 K is darn good--go YOU!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  38. I lost followers with my lack of posting, too. And, the comments have dwindled. And, please don't let your heart implode.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Awesome job on the wordage! :)

    ReplyDelete
  40. Don't feel bad about your lost followers - it's their loss. When your hiatus is over, they'll probably come back. :)
    And congrats on 15,000 words!

    ReplyDelete
  41. The TVs and my iPod keep me going at the gym. And don't worry about those followers. You'll probably gain twice that many during the blogfest next Monday.

    ReplyDelete
  42. I will not leave you. And I want to pick up your slack on that alcohol consumption. I need it today.lol

    ReplyDelete
  43. If only treadmills had TVs AND beer coozies! That would be MY kind of gym...

    ReplyDelete
  44. First, many people have lost a few followers lately due to the ongoing blogger weirdness. Just sayin'.

Also, a GYM. Dude. You and me BOTH!! You'll have to let me know how that turning-30-min-of-cardio-into-10 thing works out for ya :)

And how sad the girlies are growing up. :( I have mixed feelings about my own dudes. It's weird and awesome all at the same time. My guys will be in 6th grade next year. *sigh* They are getting long and lanky, growing dark hair on their legs and, um, noticing girls. *sigh again*

  45. Glad you're back. Especially glad your commenting is set up so I can comment [stupid blogger issue].

Yay on the word count. I think people are purged periodically and that they didn't unfollow you. Maybe I'm wrong, but that's what I choose to believe.

  46. Lost four, won one. Two more and you're back!
    Good luck at the gym.

  47. I never left a blog for not posting - just for posting something I found really really offensive. I doubt seriously that will ever be the case here, so if I suddenly disappear from your followers, blame Blogger. And let me know so I can re-follow you. =o)

    ReplyDelete
  48. Boooo!

If it's any consolation, they suck.

    JUST KIDDING.

Followers come and go all the time. It's not you. It may also be Blogger. *grumbles*

Also, I have a feeling you and Simon will be trouble this October. TROUBLE. Hide the vodka.

  49. Every now and again I lose a follower. It happens. I'll jump on the bandwagon and say it's just a glitch in the system. That Glitch is a hungry little bugger, ain't he?

    ReplyDelete
  50. I would gladly exchange four followers for 15,000 words. I'm trying to lose weight too, my husband and I are doing a challenge.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Okay so I might have an answer to the Follower thing, sort of.

With the blogger cap on blogs that can be followed, sometimes people have to go through and unfollow some when they reach the limit. I know, I know, they are still unfollowing (it happens to all of us), but at least it isn't active dislike to the point where they are compelled to unfollow...right?

(Yeah, it doesn't really make me feel much better either, but that's how it goes.)

  52. One follower here that will never leave. you post great stuff man.

good luck on the workout, the tv should help.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Don't sweat the follower count. It goes up and down with the seasons; I always lose a few in January.

And enjoy the exercise! We want you to stay around for a long time!

    ReplyDelete
  54. I will try to stop by and read your piece later today! In the meantime you've made me feel better. I lost a few followers too, and I was bummed. But if YOU did also... It must not be us! :D

    ReplyDelete
  55. Okay, you just gained a follower. Only a difference of three now.

    ReplyDelete
  56. 1-I still haven't figured out how to stop following a blog, so you're stuck w/me... :D LOL!

2-Starting a workout routine is tough--hang in there. And yes, those little TVs help. Until you start running, then they'll make you hurt yourself. ;p

3-Is "If You Stay" your response to my book reviews? Love the writing~
